We bring attention and awareness to the people of Nepal.
Beginning September 2025, Nepal began experiencing major political opposition. As the
Nepalese government imposed a social media ban, protests began to erupt across the
country primarily led by Generation Z demonstrators.
Across various Nepalese cities, including Kathmandu, protests continued. Tensions
came to a head between protestors and security on September 8th as they clashed. The
next day protestors lit the parliament building along with other government offices on
fire. Department coordinator of the BA political science program at Winston-Salem
state university Dr. Darryl Powell-Young calls the time a “transformational period
shaped by youth activism.” Amid the resignation of prime minister K.P. Sharma Oli,
activists supported Sushila Karki to serve as interim prime minister.
Karki was sworn in on September 12th, 2025, becoming the first woman to lead the government.
The unity of activists in Nepal has had a major impact on the country. Junior Montrell
Spears states “their unity and determination will have a lasting positive effect on the
country.” While protests have ended many across the globe are unaware of the
transformative events that occurred in Nepal. When asked if the events were receiving
enough media coverage Junior Caleb Dunn stated, “these events are not spoken about
enough and they need to be, as their actions have changed their country forever.”
With Generation Z being the primary leaders of this movement, it reflects the power of
shared ideals of freedom. Dr. Darryl Powell-Young states, “these social movements will
have a lasting impact on the government, politics, and economic stability of Nepal.” As
we see the Nepalese stand for their ideals, it raises the question. Would you do the
same?
