Step inside the Winston-Salem State University Adobe Lab, and you’re immediately surrounded by creativity. With keyboards clicking, screens glowing, and designs coming to life, It’s a space where technology meets imagination, guided by two Winston-Salem State University Alumni, Jonathan Jones and India Page. Leading students to transform their visions into digital masterpieces, providing benefits to students by helping them build skills and confidence.

When asked what they enjoy the most while working in the lab, India expressed sharing her love for helping others claiming that “Being able to help assist somebody bring their idea to life, or to come to that conclusion so they can submit their assignment, and they feel relieved, I like doing that.” Jonathen also adds

“We’re not far removed. We see ourselves in y’all. And a big payoff is helping people get their creations and bringing them to life. And then just seeing that moment where an idea connects.”

Both agreed that creative skills are more essential than ever. “It can set you off from someone just knowing how to do some kind of editing. Someone could’ve created it just for you because you have those abilities that are needed within that business,” says India. Jonathan explains the idea that “With the rise of AI and misinformation, being able to tell your own story is a kind of superpower. It connects, informs, and inspires.”

Looking ahead, Jonathan hopes the lab remains a creative hub for future students saying, “The lab having resources that students now, and for the next decade, that there’s media resources that students can use to express their opinion and let the lab be the creative hub on campus.” India acknowledges how

“It would be cool to know people you helped or came in consistently, and then later on in life, you see them have their own clothing brand in the store and help play a part in their success.”

The Adobe Lab here at Winston-Salem State University is more than just a workspace. It’s a catalyst for creation, community, and confidence. Having mentors like Jonathan and India leading the way, Winston-Salem State University students aren’t just learning skills. They teach us how to find our voices, shaping our dreams and ideas, and creating digital work that brings ideas to life.
