On November 17th, 2025, WSSU held their annual Raminiscence Fall Concert! Held in Dillard Auditorium, various musicians came together to perform a beautiful medley of Jazz, Blues, and Christmas carols! They introduced the backstory of each song with depth, allowing the audience a bit more insight into each selection.
Dr. Lee David Legette, the founder of the RamSax Quartet, shared some insight into the foundation of this group. The Quartet was created in 1992, and it consists of students who possess the saxophone as their primary instrument. These members are both music and non music majors, but they have studied the saxophone with Dr. Legette.
Some songs performed consisted of Joy to the World, by George Frederic Handel, Jingle Bells by James Pierpoint, as well as Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson. Member Desmond Gilmore, a tenor saxophone player and a music major performed within these songs. “Hard work and dedication is the core of things like these,” he says.
Outside of saxophones, there were many other instruments to be seen on stage. Pianos, drums, string bass, and even trumpets were integral parts of this performance. The piano, played by Dr. Myron Brown, the director of the music department, was one beautiful sound of so many. “Life is like a piano. What you get out of it depends on how you play it,” states Dr. Brown, providing a different depth to his performance.
The next performance by this Quartet, to be seen in Spring 2026, is heavily awaited and holds much anticipation within students. Music is a core piece of the HBCU experience, and the RamSax Quartet and events held by such, are never to be looked over.
