The campus of WSSU leaps with joy, as they are able to transition from spooky season to Christmas time starting with the lighting of the tree!

With its yearly Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which took place in the middle of the cafe on Monday night, WSSU officially began the holiday season on November 17th. Students said that despite a hectic time of year, the event provided a little moment of happiness and relief.

Ariana Miles, a sophomore, spoke that the illumination united the campus in a unique way, describing the occasion as "warm and magical" for those who were present. “The lighting of the Christmas tree is always a good time for me and my friends, watching everyone come together and sing songs.”

Additionally, faculty members expressed gratitude for the custom. The ceremony is more than just a seasonal celebration, according to Mr.Kambre Stephens. "Everyone is brought together in a meaningful way," he said. "We are reminded that WSSU is a family by moments like this."

Attending the ceremony for the last time before graduation, Darius Coleman said that customs like this one demonstrate WSSU's strong feeling of family and community. “This is my last one and it's always a good moment.”

Many people stayed to chat, relax, and take in the festive atmosphere, and the evening went well beyond the actual lighting. By the conclusion of the evening, the Christmas tree was shining as a representation of happiness, solidarity, and the tenacity of the WSSU community, laying out the groundwork for an optimistic and touching holiday season.
