Winston Salem Rams take on the UNC Tar hills for a early exhibition match for the season!

WINSTON-SALEM, NC On a thrilling night of basketball, the Winston-Salem State University Rams (WSSU) went head-to-head with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels (UNC) in an exhibition game that brought more than just competitive sports to the campus. The event, held at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, not only offered a rare opportunity for local basketball fans to witness elite college level play but also brought significant financial benefits to WSSU and its students.

The exhibition game between the Rams and the Tar Heels was more than just a matchup of skill and strategy. The revenue generated from ticket sales, concessions, and corporate sponsorships has a lasting impact on the university. Proceeds from the event directly support a variety of programs, initiatives, and resources designed to enhance student life and academic experiences.

A Boost for Campus Resources

According to WSSU officials, the money raised from high-profile events like this exhibition game is reinvested into the university’s infrastructure and campus resources. “These events create opportunities for us to enhance student facilities, fund scholarships, and support programs that empower our students to succeed academically and professionally,” said Dr. Bonita J. Brown, Chancellor of WSSU.

Supporting Student Success

In particular, the funds generated by the game play a key role in supporting scholarships for students, ensuring that more Rams have access to higher education, regardless of financial circumstances. WSSU has a longstanding commitment to providing opportunities for students from underrepresented communities, and events like this help solidify that commitment.

“We’re grateful for the funds raised tonight, as they help to sustain the programs that make WSSU such a great place for students,” said Brianna Harris, a junior communications major at the university. “This kind of support makes a difference for students like me, who rely on scholarships to continue their education.”

The Power of Community

The exhibition game also provided a platform for the local community to come together and show support for WSSU. Fans packed the arena, with many cheering not only for the Rams but also for the broader mission of the university. The collaboration between WSSU and UNC brought excitement and unity to the Winston-Salem area, reinforcing the university's role as a key cultural and academic pillar in the community.

As WSSU continues to grow and thrive, events like the UNC exhibition game offer a valuable reminder of how sports and student success go together. The funds raised serve as a testament to the powerful connection between athletics, academics, and community support.
